Shalom!

It's the first day of Hanukkah! This is the holiday Mord told me about, but I never remembered what it's called. Now I do :)

  1. Hannukah is their Christmas ba? Is it the exact equivalent?

I used to watch The OC (why lang naman. just why.) And there was a character there who was half Jew. So they call the holidays, Chrismukkah. Haha! Naalala ko lang...

Another thing na naalala ko about Hannukah...medyo malayo tong story...We had a case in Constitutional law regarding Religious freedom. It was an American case about a Jew soldier who wouldn't take off his yarmulke during duty. The military requires uniformity so the court's decision was to order him to take it off. Because the order naman daw is not attacking the religion, rather it is simply a matter of military rules. dissenting opinion ng ibang judge: wearing a yarmulke is no different than wearing a crucifix. why forbid him to do so? so there. may debate dun sa case na yun.

anyway...yung connection dun is...ang daming nag-recit dun sa case na yun kase may tanong na di masagot. so everytime na may nagrerecit samen, they pronounce yarmulke as "yarmoolk." and i keep murmuring "it's yamukah. sounds like hannukah!" they don't know. hay. law students. you think they're brilliant. not!

    :)

okay. ang haba ng kwento ko. haha! naalala ko lang kase. hay...things Jewish! :)

  2. I remember Mord told me about this holiday when while speaking on phone, he said he had to leave his mother's house sooner before the holidays. Then I said matter-of-factly, "yeah christmas is near." Tapos he wasn't referring to Christmas pala. He said something about a holiday wherein Jews sit or have picnic on their porch to celebrate the arrival of something. I don't remember how he described it. I don't even remember how he called that holiday. I just remembered it now, and figured, yeah maybe that time he was referring to Hanukkah since I think it's the major holiday celebration that the Jews have na saktong tapat sa christmas season natin. I also remembered that Jews don't commemorate Christmas since they don't, err, like Jesus cos for them, he's a mere prophet. I also remember that he once said Christmas or speaking of Jesus is offensive or insulting to them =/
